How to Get the Most out of Face Masks!

We multitask every day. We fold clothes while we watch TV. We take notes in a meeting (or in class) while still listening to the speaker. We talk to our passengers in the car when we drive. So why not get the benefits of multiple face masks at once?!

The latest trend in face masks is to do something called multi-masking. Multi-masking is when you use more than one mask on our face at one time. You know, multitasking for your face! This comes in handy when you have combination skin where some areas of your face are oily and others are dry. Multi-masking also works great when you only need a mask in one area (e.g. for pores or a breakout). If you have sensitive skin you might not want to put that pore minimizing mask or a clarifying mask all over your face if you only need it for one area.

So I’m going to show you a couple different ways how I multi-mask and the products I like to use together!

But first, let me first just show you this amazing shirt from Target!! In love right now. So comfortable and inexpensive! Find it here!

Mud and Clay Multi-masking:

For this multi-mask, I used 3 different of masks on my face. Two of them were mud masks and the other one was a clay mask.

Masks used
From left to right: GLAMGLOW POWERMUD Dualcleanse Treament, GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment, MURAD Blackhead and Pore Clearing Duo, and e.l.f. foundation brush.

I first put the MURAD Blackhead and Pore Clearing Duo Step 1 on my nose. This is where my pores are the largest and I tend to get the most blackheads. This two-step treament (step 2 not shown) that helps reduce the formation of blackheads. It uses volanic mineral clay and shikakai extract to detoxify pores. I have a trial size and plan to buy the full size when I run out, but this little tube has lasted me a very long time!

Next I used the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment on my forehead and chin. I was experiencing some breakouts on these areas and this mask is great for breakouts! This powerful, skin-clearing mud visibly draws out dirt and congestion. I used the e.l.f. foundation brush (similar) to apply the mask to my face. I really like applying it this way and the brush is super cheap!

The Last mask I used was the GLAMGLOW POWERMUD Dualcleanse Treatment. I applied this to my cheeks with the e.l.f. brush. I like this mask because it is a gentle, deep cleansing treatment that is supposed to remove buildup of dirt, oil and makeup.

You can see in this picture how the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD is already starting to dry. The GLAMGLOW POWERMUD doesn’t dry down because it is a mud in oil treatment.

Sheet Multi-masking:

Another option is to use different types of sheet masks at once. I used these hydrating eye pads and a cellulose fiber mask for this multi-masking night!

My first step for this multimasking treatment was to apply the eye pads. These wilmaSCHUMANN Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads are great to just wake up the under eye area if you need an extra boost. They help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness. I received mine in a birchbox and I really liked these. Another option for eye pads that may be a little easier to get if you aren’t an online shopper is the skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels and you can find them at Ulta. These only need to stay on for 10 minutes and come in a pack of 8.

Eye Mask 1

I then added the Dr.Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Deep Hydrating Sheet Mask  on top of the eye pads. This cellulose sheet mask deeply hydrates, replenishes, and protects skin’s own moisture.

Eye Mask and Face Mask

Sheet masks are unlike any other type of mask. Once the sheet mask is removed, rub in any of the product that is left on the face. I also like to take some of the product left behind and rub it into my neck.

These were just 2 different options of multi-masking that I like to use. There are many different combinations that you can try and experiment with! Have fun with it and enjoy your pampering time. Let these masks do the multitasking while you relax and take in the benefits!!

Happy Masking!!

Everyday Makeup Routine Jan 2016

I start with a clean and moisturized face. I like to put on an eye cream and a moisturizer on my face and let it sink in for a little while before putting on my makeup. Then I prime my face with Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water and I prime my eyes for eye shadow with Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Eye Shadow Primer.

I apply my foundation (currently using Frankie Rose Cosmetics Matte Perfection Foundation in Neutral) by spotting it all over my face so I don’t add too much and I use pressing motions with a dense buffer brush to push it into my skin.

Then I conceal any blemishes with Almay Clear Complexion Concealer in Light/Medium and correct my dark circles with NYX Dark Circle Concealer in Medium.

After concealing, I like to highlight the under eye area with a lighter color concealer (L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Concealer in Light) and set it with a loose powder (Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder) so it doesn’t move throughout the day.

After my under eye area is set with powder, I move on to eye shadow. Lately I’ve really liked using the Tartlette in Bloom Eye Shadow Palette with most of my eye shadow looks.

I used Smarty Pants with a big fluffy brush and then Jetsetter on a smaller fluffy crease brush.

I used Maybelline Color Tattoo Crayon in Bronzed Truffle on my lid and then blended out any harsh lines with the crease brush.

I highlighted my brow bone with Flower Child and Charmer from the Tartlette palette mixed together and used shade 1 from the Covergirl Notice Me Nudes Quad to lighten the inner corner of my eye. I also lined the my upper lash line with Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil in Sharp Brown.

Going back to the face now, I like to warm up my face with the Too Faced Bronzed & Poreless Pore Perfecting Bronzer. Then I add blush (Milani Rose Blush in Romantic Rose) and highlight the tops of my cheek bone with Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01.

I always curl my lashes and add mascara (Buxom Vanity Lash Mascara with the Big & Bushy brush) at the end. And the last thing I do is set my face with Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix Make-Up Setting Spray.

On a work day this is where I would end. I normally add some more lip balm or sometimes some gloss when I’m in the car. Since I took these pictures on a weekend, I was feeling a trendy lip combo. I lined my lips with Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and then put on Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow. And this is my finished look!!

Please leave me any questions you have and any requests for posts in the comment section. I would have no problem going into depth about any techniques I used. My twitter and instagram handles are down below.

New at the Drugstore: January 2016

Hi! Welcome to my blog! Thank you so much for stopping by! Now let’s talk makeup!!

The drugstore is where my makeup obsession started so I have a special place in my heart for drugstore makeup. This January, there seems to be a bunch of new releases at my local drugstore. Here is what I found:

036 Pixlr
L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation in N3.5.

This is the first cushion foundation that I have seen at the drugstore. It was a little bit up there in price for drugstore ($12.99) but I had to try it out (and I had a coupon)! This is what it looks like on the inside.

The foundation is soaked into the cushion and you use the applicator pad (not shown) and press the cushion to get the product.

This is a sheer to medium buildable coverage foundation. I really like this for days that I just want a little something but not a full face of foundation.

Maybelline also came out with a new foundation idea… a matte but hydrating formula.

Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in Nude 40 ($10.99).

The claims that this foundation was making really sparked my interest. I have pretty normal skin, my nose gets oily but the rest of my skin is normal. It is a gel-whipped formula that claims to give a perfected complexion with a velvety, soft-matte finish that keeps the skin hydrated for 12 hours. I will have to keep you updated on if these claims are true.

One thing that exploded in 2015 in the makeup community was contouring and highlighting. The drugstore was a little late to the party but I am happy that they are finally jumping on the bandwagon.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Contour Contour & Highlight Palette ($12.99).

This palette really intrigued me. The colors in the 813 light palette were so similar to higher end contour palettes.

These powders are really nice quality! I find that they are smooth and really blendable. I don’t want super pigmented powders when I contour but I don’t want the to blend completely away either. These powders are that perfect in between formula, especially if you are just starting out with contouring.

Covergirl came out with a bronzer and 3 blush shades in their truBlend line ($9.99 each). I picked up the bronzer and a blush that I thought would be the most suitable for my skin tone.

These looked very promising to me but the bronzer is very golden and shimmery. It almost has a greenish-gold color instead of a brown that I would prefer in bronzers.

Now the blush….. that I really like! I like the color I picked. It is blendable and just has a beautiful sheen when applied to the cheeks.

L’Oreal had this big display full of single eye shadows. They are part of the Colour Riche line which gave me hope that they were super pigmented and blendable.

These little guys did not let me down! They feel like a pressed pigment. They are smooth and pigmented.

Swatches of 202 and 204

The quality is great for a $5.99 eye shadow from the drugstore. They seem to be blendable but I will have to let you know once I try them on my eyes. I have had a hard time putting my next product down!

One of my favorite products from Maybelline is their Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow. It’s a cream eye shadow in a pot. I use 80 Creamy Beige (from their Color Tattoo Leather line) on light makeup days because it gives a nice wash of color without being too much. So when I saw that they put their Color Tattoo cream concept into a crayon form I had to grab one.

This has been my obsession since I got it! It’s an amazing color, super pigmented and it’s easy to blend out the edges so there are not harsh lines. It’s $6.99 which is the same as the color tattoos in the pots.

One more eye product I bought from Maybelline was a Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil in Sharp Brown 220. This caught my eye because of how tiny it is!

Maybelline Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil in Sharp Brown 220 ($7.99).

I am so glad maybelline thought about making a super skinny eyeliner! I do not want dramatic eyeliner everyday and this is the perfect way to easily avoid that.

I got this in brown because I just wanted to be able to define the eyes for everyday and not have it to harsh and intense. This color is perfect for just that.

Okay, on to lip products. Rimmel London came out with a new line of lipsticks, The Only 1. They are supposed to have high impact color, be moisturizing on the lips and have all day comfort and staying power. I picked up 2 colors, 200 It’s A Keeper and  700 Naughty Nude.

When I swatch them, they are pigmented and super creamy! It’s A Keeper is more of a berry tone and Naughty Nude is a brown nude.

Maybelline came out with some very trendy lip products. Liquid lipsticks are all the rage in the makeup world right now and Maybelline hopped on that trend before anyone else at the drugstore; the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid. I picked up the 2 most natural shades, 5 Nude Thrill and 10 Nude Flush.

These are a very differenttype of product for the drugstore. To someone who has used a matte liquid lipstick, they are not the same. They are more like the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams in texture. They do not fully dry matte like a liquid lipstick does but if you know what the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams feel like on the lips and you keep that in mind when you try them you will really like them.

Here are swatches for Rimmel and Maybelline lipsticks.

I also bought a lip liner for all of the lip products I bought.

Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner in 018 Addiction ($6.29).

The most recent additions to this haul were some Covergirl products from their limited edition Star Wars line. Now I have never seen Star Wars but when I finally saw this lipstick in person (everywhere I seemed to go the displays were completely sold out), something told me I at least had to try it! I picked up the Covergirl Star Wars Limited Edition Colorlicious Lipstick in Nude 70.

It is a very cool and different color and I’m very glad I was able to pick it up!

I also grabbed an eye shadow quad that was on the same display but I’m pretty sure it is not part of the limited edition collection. The Covergirl Eye Shadow Quad in 700 Notice Me Nudes.

I had my eye on this quad for a while but never purchased it from fear that it would be chalky and not pigmented. As soon as I put my finger in the cream color shade, I was blown away. These are creamy and so smooth. The (more or less) matte medium brown (#3) is so beautifully blendable and perfect for a crease shade. The #2 shimmery shade is so perfect for all over the lid and the cream shimmer shade (#1) is my new go to inner corner highlight shade. I have not used the darker brown with the glitter (#4) yet but it would be perfect on the outer corner to darken up the look.

Please let me know your thoughts and comments on this post. I would love to be able to talk to you about makeup and beauty! That is why I started this blog. So I encourage you to comment and like and share this with anyone you feel would like this post and this blog. I will leave my twitter and my instagram down below.
